India beat Sri Lanka, regain Asia Cup‎

Zaheer Khan (2-36) and Ashish Nehra (4-40) bowled India to a resounding 81-run win over Sri Lanka in the finals, breaking a 15-year jinx in the Asia Cup.

Indian batsmen made a fighting 268/6 and in reply, Sri Lanka could only manage 187 in 44.4 overs. The win earned India its fifth Asia Cup title in the 10th edition of the tournament - they had won four titles in the 1980s and '90s.

Harbhajan hits Pakistan out of the ball park

India edged home by three wickets with one ball to spare against Pakistan in a key Asia Cup one-day match in Dambulla on Saturday, with the help of a Harbhajan sixer.

For India, Gautam Gambhir top-scored with 83, while Saeed Ajmal took 3/56. Earlier, Pakistan made a good start to their innings, courtesy of openers Imran Farhat and Salman Butt, who put on 71 runs for the opening wicket.
With this loss, Pakistan is out of the Asia cup, while India will face Sri Lanka in the final on June 24th (next Thursday) following the final two round-robin games.

Dhaka Tri-series Final: Raina ton in vain as Sri Lanka lift trophy

Sri Lanka won the 'Idea Cup' tri-nations series by beating India in a one sided ODI finals by 4 wickets. Batting first after losing the toss, India were reduced to 16/3, losing Gambhir (1) in the first over, Virat Kohli (2) and Yuvraj Singh (0) in quick succession. Dhoni (17) and Sewag (42) tried to resurrect the innings, but also fell to the pace of Man of the Match Nuwan Kulasekara (4/48) and Chanaka Welegedara (3/53). India were struggling at 60/5 in the 11th over, before Suresh Raina (106) hammered a brilliant ton to help India towards 245 in 48.2 overs. It was his first ODI century against serious opposition, the first two coming against Hong Kong and Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli struck an unbeaten century (102* off 95 balls) - his second - as India cruised to a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the final and inconsequential league match of the Idea Cup at Mirpur. Gautam Gambhir added 41 while fellow opener Dinesh Karthik scored 34 and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni 32. With 2 wins in 2 days, India topped the group table with 13 points from 4 games while Sri Lanka lagged along to the second place with 12 points from 4 games.

India booked a place in the final of the tri-series as they beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in a one-sided encounter at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. The Indian batsmen chased down the 214-run target with more than 17 overs to spare after the bowlers had restricted the Lankans to a paltry 213 in the first session. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir top scored for the Indians with 71 each. The opening pair of Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik took the score past the 50-run mark in just the 7th over of the innings.

Earlier, Sri Lanka who won the toss and batted were 84 for 6 at one stage, after which it was a struggle to last 50 overs. Kumar Sangakkara top scored for the Lankans with 68, while Man of the Match Zaheer Khan and Mishra bagged three wickets apiece for India.

Sri Lanka openers Upul Tharanga (118* off 126) and Mahela Jayawardene (108 off 117) both smashed centuries to guide their team to a nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the fourth one-day international of the tri-series at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Sri Lanka cruised to 252-1 in 42.5 overs for its third win in the series after Bangladesh had earlier posted 249-9. With this win, they have secured a place in the final.

Bangladesh Cricket Board move series start times

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has brought forward the start of matches in the one-day triangular series with Sri Lanka and India in an effort to reduce the effect of dew on the result of games. All matches played so far have overwhelmingly favoured teams batting second as the dew made it difficult for bowlers of the team fielding second to grip the ball. This came in for severe criticism from the captains of the three teams.
Rest of the matches will begin 30 minutes earlier than the originally scheduled 2.30 pm local-time start.

Dhaka Tri-series Match 3: India beat Bangladesh by six wickets

Captain MS Dhoni made 101 off 107 balls and was involved in a 152-run fourth-wicket stand with Virat Kohli (91 off 102 balls) to lead India to a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Tri-Series on Thursday. India was reeling at 51 for three when Dhoni came into bat. His seventh one-day century, assisted by Suresh Raina who made an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls, helped India overhaul Bangladesh's total of 296 for six with more than two overs to spare.

Earlier, Bangladesh stand-in skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss in the afternoon, and surprised everyone by deciding to have a bat on a track that has seen the side chasing win each of the two matches in the tournament so far. Half-centuries from Tamim Iqbal (60 off 42 balls), Imrul Kayes (70 off 100 balls) and Mahmudullah (60* off 45 balls) helped Bangladesh post their highest one-day total against India.

Chanaka Welegedara took five wickets and Thilan Samaraweera (105* from 106) smashed an unbeaten century to help Sri Lanka outclass India by five wickets in the second One-Day International of the Tri-Nation Tournament in Dhaka. All-rounder Thissara Perera took the game away from India as he blazed 36 from just 15 deliveries, hitting six boundaries and a six, and was involved in an unbroken stand of 57 runs in 4.3 overs for the fifth wicket with Samaraweera.

For India, Yuvraj Singh hit an 84-ball 74, which included six fours and two successive sixes. He also featured in a 99-run fourth wicket stand with skipper MS Dhoni who made 37.

Delhi ODI: Match abandoned; Kotla may lose 2011 WC matches (IND-SRL: 3-1|5)

The fifth and final ODI at the Kotla, on Sunday, was forced to be abandoned after 23.3 overs as the pitch was deemed too dangerous to play on. Sri Lanka had toiled on the tricky surface to post 83/5, after being put in to bat in foggy conditions, before play was abandoned. Zaheer Khan provided India a dream start, cleaning up the in-form Upul Tharanga with the first delivery of the match. As the pitch turned nasty, Dilshan was struck on the elbow by Nehra's second delivery in the tenth over. Sanath Jayasuriya was also struck on the shoulder by Zaheer first and then Sudeep Tyagi. Tyagi, who made his ODI debut, finished with figures of 6.3-1-15-1. His lone wicket was that of Kumar Sangakkara who made one. Soon after he was out, Sangakkara decided he had enough and called his batsmen back to the pavilion. There were mild, isolated protests which spread and took a violent turn when it was announced at 12:30 pm that the match has been abandoned.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India responded to the fiasco by dissolving its grounds and pitches committee, while the Delhi District Cricket Association apologised to fans and spectators and offered to refund the cost of tickets. Haroon Lorgat, the ICC's chief executive, said that Delhi would not be punished for the abandonment before an investigation was held.

A spectacular finish by birthday boy Yuvraj Singh (60 of 25 balls) helped India win the second T20 match in Mohali by six wickets and draw the two-match series 1-1. A dazzling half-century by Virendra Sehwag (64 off 36 balls) set things in motion for India, chasing a mammoth target of 207 runs, thanks largely to Kumara Sangakkara's superb 59 off 31 balls. Sangakkara won the Man of the Series award, as this came after the match winning 37-ball 78 in Nagpur.

The match saw India dropping about six catches, and Sri Lanka missing one run-out chance after another. The Indian bowlers also bowled 17 wides in 20 overs. India would have lost this match (making it the fifth loss in a row) but for the Yuvraj - Dhoni partnership which blasted 80 runs off just 6 overs to secure the highest successful chase in T20 internationals.
Yuvraj Singh won the Man of the Match award for his 60 not out that included 3 fours and 5 sixes off just 25 balls, and taking 3-23 in 3 overs.

Zaheer Khan dismissed Sangakkara, Herath and Kulasekara in quick succession during his morning spell for his 8th 5-wicket haul, to lead India to a sensational victory over Sri Lanka by an innings and 24 runs. India took the 3-match series 2-0 and now leads the ICC Test rankings chart for the first time ever - with 124 points from 29 matches. South Africa 122 (30 matches) and Australia 116 (31) are in the second and third position.

Resuming at Saturday's score of 274-6, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 309. It was India's second straight innings victory over Sri Lanka in the series. Offspinner Harbhajan Singh had Muttiah Muralitharan (14) caught behind to complete the victory.
In India's first innings total of 726/9 declared, six batsmen posted fifty or more for India for the fifth time in Tests - Vijay (87), Sehwag (293), Dravid (74), Tendulkar (53), Laxman (62) and Dhoni (100*). Sehwag was named Man of the Match for his 293. He was also named Man of the Series. It was Sehwag's fourth Man of the Series award, and eighth Man of the Match award.

Tillakaratne Dilshan scored a fine century that inspired Sri Lanka to a comprehensive 74-run over India in the Triangular Series final here on Saturday. A 121-run opening partnership between Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene gave Sri Lanka a control of proceedings.

India's chase faltered when Virender Sehwag (28) was run out while captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (67) was last man out as India subsided to 225 all out.

IND vs NZL: Sehwag sends India into final

India booked their place in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka with a resounding 105-run victory over New Zealand in Dambulla. Virender Sehwag was the architect of the victory as he rescued a flagging Indian innings by smacking 110. India lost opener Dinesh Karthik without a run on the board and then slumped to 66 for four before captain M.S. Dhoni and Sehwag added 107 runs for the fifth wicket. Sehwag raced to his hundred in 87 balls and finished with 110 off just 93 balls where he hit 16 fours and a six. Once Sehwag was dismissed, India collapsed again, losing five wickets for 34 runs. Apart from Sehwag and Dhoni only Ravindra Jadeja managed to go past double figures as once again ball dominated over bat.

Following a crushing defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka, India had to come up with a spirited effort and Sehwag provided the launching pad with his 13th ODI hundred and the sixth against the New Zealanders. It will be another Sri Lanka - India final, two sides that have often played each other during the last two years or so and with conditions here so unpredictable, the toss will have too much to decide.

Sri Lanka's batsmen capped off an impressive bowling performance to record an emphatic eight-wicket win over India in the fifth one-day international of the triangular series at Dambulla.

Chasing a mere 104 for victory after Thisara Perera's career-best figures of five for 28 had brought about an Indian batting collapse, the hosts were able to reach the target in a little more than 15 overs without much trouble.
India, after slipping to their worst defeat in terms of balls remaining, face New Zealand on Wednesday in a knockout.

NZL vs SRL: Match called off again because of rain‎‎

Rain has forced the tri-series one-day match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand to be called off for a second day Friday. The match was originally scheduled Thursday and was called off without a ball being bowled.

New Zealand captain Ross Taylor won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The hosts reached 203-3 in the 44th over when the rain started. Both teams were awarded two points each for the match. New Zealand leads the table with seven points from Sri Lanka on six. India, with two more games to play, is last on five points.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board took a stern decision on Wednesday and handed spinner Suraj Randiv, who had denied Virender Sehwag a century with a deliberate no-ball, a one-match ban, also fining him 100 per cent of his match fee.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board also found Tilakratne Dilshan guilty of coaxing Randiv into bowling a no-ball. Dilshan will also lose the entire match fee. Skipper Kumara Sangakkara was warned and asked to rein in his players in future.

Virender Sehwag hit an unbeaten 99 to propel India to a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Monday with more than 15 overs left in a one-day international match in the tri-series.
The match ended in controversy when offspinner Suraj Randiv bowled a no-ball to concede the winning run, denying Sehwag a century despite the batsman hitting a six when the scores were level. The laws of cricket first counts the extra run for a no-ball. Sehwag later accused Randiv of bowling the no-ball deliberately.

Earlier, the Sri Lankans lost Upul Tharanga to the first ball of the match and were all out for 170 in the 47th over, with Tillakaratne Dilshan (45) top-scoring.

New Zealand were dismissed for 192 with BJ Watling scoring a half-century on debut. With eight runs required off six balls for the bonus point, Sri Lanka gave up the adventure and settled for victory with 9.1 overs to spare.

New Zealand defeated India by a massive 200-run margin in the opening tri-nation series cricket ODI. India was all out for 88 in the 30th over in reply to New Zealand's 288 inside 49 overs.

Sri Lanka, the other team in the series, play New Zealand on Friday.
