India in Sri Lanka Cricket Series 2009
India vs Sri Lanka Fourth ODI at Colombo
IND v SL, 4th ODI, Colombo: India claim ninth victory in a row (IND 4:0)
Feb 05, 2009
India notched up the record-breaking ninth consecutive win, in a match that was suspended midway through, for 22 minutes, due to unruly crowd behaviour. The match also saw Muttiah Muralitharan celebrating his record 503rd ODI wicket, in his 328th one-day international. He dismissed Gautam Gambhir in his 10th and final over to move above former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram at the top of the list. Averaging over six wickets per match, Muralitharan is also Test cricket’’s leading wicket-taker with 769 victims in 125 matches.
Man of the Match Gautam Gambhir's 150 helped India post 332 for five and they bowled their hosts out for 265 to secure a 67-run win over Sri Lanka at the R. Premadesa Stadium in Colombo.
IND v SL, 4th ODI, Colombo: India plans to test bench strength
Feb 05, 2009
Having clinched the five-match series by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead, India will try out some of their reserve players when they take on Sri Lanka in an inconsequential fourth one-dayer in Colombo on Thursday, seeking to notch up a record-breaking ninth consecutive win.
Although the visitors would ideally like to make a clean sweep of the series, giving an opportunity to the bench players will be their priority in the remaining two matches.
Everything has gone well for Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men in the series and the team will be keen to keep the winning sequence going for a record ninth consecutive match on Thursday.
The Indian batting has been far superior than the home team and the bowling has also been quite disciplined to bring about the desired results.
Dhoni made it clear after yesterday's match that giving reserve players a chance to prove themselves was more important than retaining the winning squad in pursuit of their record ninth straight ODI win.
