Delhi ODI: Match abandoned; Kotla may lose 2011 WC matches (IND-SRL: 3-1|5)

The fifth and final ODI at the Kotla, on Sunday, was forced to be abandoned after 23.3 overs as the pitch was deemed too dangerous to play on. Sri Lanka had toiled on the tricky surface to post 83/5, after being put in to bat in foggy conditions, before play was abandoned. Zaheer Khan provided India a dream start, cleaning up the in-form Upul Tharanga with the first delivery of the match. As the pitch turned nasty, Dilshan was struck on the elbow by Nehra's second delivery in the tenth over. Sanath Jayasuriya was also struck on the shoulder by Zaheer first and then Sudeep Tyagi. Tyagi, who made his ODI debut, finished with figures of 6.3-1-15-1. His lone wicket was that of Kumar Sangakkara who made one. Soon after he was out, Sangakkara decided he had enough and called his batsmen back to the pavilion. There were mild, isolated protests which spread and took a violent turn when it was announced at 12:30 pm that the match has been abandoned.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India responded to the fiasco by dissolving its grounds and pitches committee, while the Delhi District Cricket Association apologised to fans and spectators and offered to refund the cost of tickets. Haroon Lorgat, the ICC's chief executive, said that Delhi would not be punished for the abandonment before an investigation was held.

Calcutta ODI: Gambhir, Kohli tons guide India to series-clinching win (IND-SRL: 3-1|5)

India won the fourth cricket one-day international against Sri Lanka by seven wickets with centuries from Virat Kohli (107) and Gautam Gambhir (150*). India, in the absence of MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, easily chased down 316 in 48.1 overs, even after losing Virender Sehwag (10) and Sachin Tendulkar (8) early, inside the first four overs.

Earlier, centurion Upul Tharanga (118) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (60) laid a solid foundation as Sri Lanka plundered 315 for six.
India now has an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Cuttack ODI: Sachin, Jadeja star in India's win at Cuttack (IND-SRL: 2-1|5)

Sachin Tendulkar's unbeaten 96 led India to a seven-wicket victory in the third One Day International against Sri Lanka in Cuttack, with 7.2 overs to spare.
Upul Tharanga (73), Kumar Sangakkara (46) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (41 off 18 balls) earlier gave Sri Lanka a superb start as they powered to 165-1 after winning the toss. Sri Lanka raced to their fifty off just 3.4 overs, which was the third joint fastest team fifty in ODIs.
Ravindra Jadeja claimed a career-best 4-32 as India's bowlers fought back well to restrict Sri Lanka to just 239 all out. He won his first Man of the Match award for his contribution. Sri Lanka could only muster 74 runs while losing the last 9 wickets.

Stand-in skipper Virender Sehwag (44 off 28 balls) gave India a solid start. After he was out, Gautam Gambhir (32) continued the chase in partnership with Tendulkar, adding 72 for the second wicket. Sachin hit 13 fours in 104 balls, but was stranded at 96 after Karthik (36 not out) hit a boundary to finish the game. India now has a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Cuttack ODI: India, Lanka, look to win the cliffhanger in Orissa

Virendra Sehwag will be the Indian skipper as they take on a depleted Sri Lankan side at the Barabati Stadium in Orissa in the crucial third one day International of the Karbonn Cup. The latest Sri Lankan player to be ruled out with injury is Angelo Mathews. The Sri Lankan cricket board said he will return home due to the strain suffered to his right quadricep muscle during the match winning innings in Nagpur. Thissara Perera has been called up to replace Mathews for the third match.

India will miss the services of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, banned from two ODIs for the team's slow over-rate, but Yuvraj Singh is expected to make a return. Dinesh Karthik will be replacing Dhoni while S Sreesanth who has recoved from swine flu will be in the team.
Both teams would look to win the 3rd ODI and take lead. The D/N match will start at 2:30 PM IST.

Slow over-rate in Nagpur ODI - MS Dhoni banned for two ODIs

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been banned for two ODIs - with immediate effect - because India maintained slow over-rate during the second match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. The rest of the Indian players were fined 40% of their match fee for the offence. Dhoni will be unavailable for the games in Cuttack and Kolkata, returning only for the final ODI in Delhi. Virendra Sehwag will captain the side in his absence.

Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has been included in the Indian team for next two One-dayers to keep wickets in place of Dhoni. Ishant Sharma has also been recalled into the squad in place of fellow pacer S Sreesanth who is suffering from swine flu. There has been no other changes made in the squad announced by BCCI secretary N Srinivasan after a selection committee meeting in Chennai.

Nagpur ODI: Sri Lanka win to level the series against India (IND-SRL: 1-1|5)

Man-of-the-match Tillakaratne Dilshan struck his second successive century (123 off 113 balls) as Sri Lanka chased down 302 for victory over India with five balls to spare to level the series. Dilshan struck 12 fours and two sixes. He had smashed a career-best 160 in the first match when the tourists fell three runs short.

For India, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit 107 - his sixth hundred - to set Sri Lanka a challenging target, after the openers were out cheaply. Virat Kohli (54) and Sachin Tendulkar (43) added 62 for the third wicket to steady the innings. Virender Sehwag fell for 4 and Gautam Gambhir made just 2 before he collided with the bowler and ran himself out.

Rajkot ODI: India beat Sri Lanka by 3 runs in high-scoring opener (IND-SRL: 1-0|5)

Chasing India's record score of 414/7 - the fifth highest in ODI history - Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed 160 and contributed in substantial stands with Upul Tharanga (67) and Kumar Sangakkara (90), but still Sri Lanka ended up 3 runs short. Sri Lanka required just eleven runs in the last over on a pitch which already saw 818 runs being scored, but could only score 7 runs - 2 doubles, 3 singles and they also lost one wicket. In the last ball that Nehra bowled, Kulasekara needed five to win or four to tie. He scored one.

Earlier, Man of the Match Virender Sehwag hammered 146 off 102 deliveries and featured in century partnerships with Sachin Tendulkar (69 - 92nd ODI half-century) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (72) after Sri Lanka opted to field in the morning. From a strong position of 309 for one, India slipped to 352 for six, ruining the chance for a score near the 450s. Sehwag and Dhoni added 156 before they fell within four deliveries of each other.

Rajkot ODI: Injury worries for India, Lanka in ODI series opener

Dashing southpaw Yuvraj Singh might sit out of the first ODI match in Rajkot because of the injury he sustained on the little finger of his left-hand while fielding in the second T20 match in Mohali. Indian Captain MS Dhoni said in a press conference that Virat Kohli might play instead. Local boy Ravindra Jadeja is also being considered to be in the playing XI. India is without the services of S Sreesanth for the first two ODIs, as he is down with swine-flu. The return of Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar and Harbhajan Singh, who were not part of the T20 team, has strengthened the hosts' batting and bowling line-up. Sachin Tendulkar is all set to become the first player to appear in 600 international games.

For Sri Lanka, pacer Lasith Malinga is down with fever. Both the sides will decide their final XI only before the start today's match.

India is currently second behind Australia in the ICC ODI ratings. They will need a clean sweep to reduce the gap to four ratings points to Australia's 130.

Mohali T20: Sehwag, Yuvraj help India thrash Sri Lanka (IND-SRL: 1-1|2)

A spectacular finish by birthday boy Yuvraj Singh (60 of 25 balls) helped India win the second T20 match in Mohali by six wickets and draw the two-match series 1-1. A dazzling half-century by Virendra Sehwag (64 off 36 balls) set things in motion for India, chasing a mammoth target of 207 runs, thanks largely to Kumara Sangakkara's superb 59 off 31 balls. Sangakkara won the Man of the Series award, as this came after the match winning 37-ball 78 in Nagpur.

The match saw India dropping about six catches, and Sri Lanka missing one run-out chance after another. The Indian bowlers also bowled 17 wides in 20 overs. India would have lost this match (making it the fifth loss in a row) but for the Yuvraj - Dhoni partnership which blasted 80 runs off just 6 overs to secure the highest successful chase in T20 internationals.
Yuvraj Singh won the Man of the Match award for his 60 not out that included 3 fours and 5 sixes off just 25 balls, and taking 3-23 in 3 overs.

Mohali T20: Sreesanth diagnosed with swine flu, Team manager also in hospital

Indian cricket team manager Mayank Sekhar was admitted to a local hospital in Mohali late Friday night - the evening before the second T20 match - with flu-like symptoms. Pacer S Sreesanth was diagnosed with swine flu on Thursday.

After Wednesday's thrashing at Nagpur - India's fourth loss in succession - the former World Twenty20 Champions are looking to win this match to level the series 1-1. Rohit Sharma, who injured his shoulder during India's 29 run defeat, will also miss the game.

Nagpur T20: Sri Lanka beat India by 29 runs (IND-SRL: 0-1|2)

Man of the Match Kumar Sangakkara hit 78 off 37 balls which included 11 boundaries and two sixes to lead Sri Lanka to a 29-run win over India in the first of two Twenty20 internationals. Sri Lanka raced to 215-5 with help from Chamara Kapugedera (47 not out from 20 balls), Tillakaratne Dilshan (34) and Sanath Jayasuriya (26).

Gambhir (55 off 26 balls) gave India a great start, but the middle order collapsed and India finished the 20 overs at 186/9. Ashish Nehra’s 22 in 13 balls was not enough to see the team through. Jayasuriya took 2-19 and Angelo Mathews 2-30.

Nagpur T20: Srilanka's fight for honor

Recently crowned World Number One Test team, India, will look to assert their supremacy in the shortest format as well when they clash against Sri Lanka in the first Twenty20 International in Nagpur today. For India, youngsters Ashok Dinda and R Ashwin are in the team, replacing fast bowler Zaheer Khan and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan and Rohit Sharma would shore up the middle-order along with Yuvraj Singh and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After winning the World Twenty20 in 2007, India has not played well in the international arena. In nine Twenty20 internationals since 2008, they have lost six and won only three - one each against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Ireland.

The tourists have brought in right-arm sling-action bowler Lasith Malinga, who missed the Test series because of an injury, to strengthen their pace bowling attack. Muttiah Muralidaran, who is nursing an injured finger, might not play.

Bangladesh take on Sri Lanka in the opening match on January 4 and the two top teams will face off in the final on January 13. Each team will play the other twice, all day-night games.

Zaheer Khan dismissed Sangakkara, Herath and Kulasekara in quick succession during his morning spell for his 8th 5-wicket haul, to lead India to a sensational victory over Sri Lanka by an innings and 24 runs. India took the 3-match series 2-0 and now leads the ICC Test rankings chart for the first time ever - with 124 points from 29 matches. South Africa 122 (30 matches) and Australia 116 (31) are in the second and third position.

Resuming at Saturday's score of 274-6, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 309. It was India's second straight innings victory over Sri Lanka in the series. Offspinner Harbhajan Singh had Muttiah Muralitharan (14) caught behind to complete the victory.
In India's first innings total of 726/9 declared, six batsmen posted fifty or more for India for the fifth time in Tests - Vijay (87), Sehwag (293), Dravid (74), Tendulkar (53), Laxman (62) and Dhoni (100*). Sehwag was named Man of the Match for his 293. He was also named Man of the Series. It was Sehwag's fourth Man of the Series award, and eighth Man of the Match award.

Kanpur, Day 4: India complete 100th Test win (IND-SRL: 1-0|3)

India clinched their biggest Test victory against Sri Lanka by comprehensively beating them by an innings and 144 runs. In the process, India became the sixth country to post 100 Test victories, joining Australia (332), England (310), West Indies (152), South Africa (120) and Pakistan (103). Resuming day four at 57/4, Sri Lanka were dismissed for 269 before tea to complete the sixth victory for India in nine Tests under Dhoni's captaincy - three were no results.

Thilan Samaraweera remained unbeaten on a defiant 78 off 213 balls after sharing a 73-run partnership with Ajantha Mendis (27) to frustrate the Indians. Paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, making his Test comeback, was named man of the match for his 5-75 in the first innings. The crushing win puts India 1-0 ahead in the series, with the third and final Test taking place in Mumbai next week.

Ahmedabad, Day 5: India salvage draw with Gambhir, Tendulkar centuries (IND-SRL: 0-0|3)

An unbeaten century by Indian master Sachin Tendulkar, who also became the first cricketer to cross 30000 runs, and Gautam Gambhir's gritty 114 - his seventh overall and third century in as many matches - helped India draw against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Ahmedabad. The dead pitch, with only 21 wickets and seven centuries, didn't do a bit to help Sri Lanka's dream of a first Test win in India.
The captains agreed to call off the match with six overs still to go just after Sachin completed his 43rd Test Century. His 88th international 100!
