World Twenty20 Final: India vs Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka 2014 Champions

Sri Lanka finally broke their World T20 jinx to finish champions, chasing down India's modest score of 130 for 4. Sri Lanka were beaten in the 2007 and 2011 World Cup finals and the 2009 and 2012 World T20 finals. Despite a belligerent 77 by Virat Kohli, India couldn't accelerate the score in the final overs due to Yuvraj’ Singh'’s excruciatingly slow innings of 11 off 21. The last four overs were a calamity for India as Kohli faced just eight deliveries and India scored only 19 runs. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni came in with only 11 deliveries left and found it difficult to accelerate the pace of scoring.

Man of the Match Kumar Sangakkara become the fourth player after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis to score 25,000 international runs during the 35-ball 52 - his last T20. Virat Kohli won the World Twenty20 player of the tournament award for his 319 runs - including innings of 36 not out against Pakistan, 54 against the West Indies, 57 not out against Bangladesh, 23 against Australia and a match-winning 72 not out against South Africa in the semi-final.

Reported Earlier: Covers on at Mirpur stadium, and the final of the ICC World T20 between India and Sri Lanka is likely to be delayed because of steady rainfall.

India XI: MS Dhoni (Captain & Wicket Keeper), Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma
Sri Lanka XI: Kusal Perera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara (Wicket Keeper), Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nuwan Kulasekara, Sachithra Senanayake, Thisara Perera, Rangana Herath, Lasith Malinga (Captain)
WT20 Final - Sri Lanka 132/4 in 17.5 ov (Sangakkara 52*) beat India 130/4 in 20 ov (Kohli 77, Rohit 29) by 6 wickets with 13 balls remaining

India on the cusp of record treble

World ODI Champions India is looking to seal an unprecedented limited-overs treble when they meet Sri Lanka in Sunday's World Twenty20 final. After winning the 2011 50-over World Cup final in Mumbai - when Sachin Tendulkar was still part of the Indian team - MS Dhoni led India to Champions Trophy glory in England two years later. They now stand just one match away from becoming the first country to hold three major titles at the same time. Meanwhile, this will be the last game in the shortest format for Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.

Sangakkara steers Sri Lanka to dramatic win over India

Kumar Sangakkara hit a brilliant 103 as Sri Lanka survived anxious moments to overcome India by two wickets in a thrilling last-over finish on Friday, securing their second win in the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 216-7 in the 44th over, but left-handed Sangakkara, who hit 12 boundaries and a six in his 18th one-day century, made sure his team was within reach of victory before falling in the penultimate over.

Earlier, the Sri Lanka spinners Ajantha Mendis and Sachithra Senanayake shared seven wickets to restrict the reigning world champions to 264/9 in the day-night match in Fatullah. Opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 94 as India, sent in to bat, moved to 175/2 in 35 overs before losing five wickets for 40 runs to slide to 215/7. Big hitting by the lower order, including two sixes by last man Mohammed Shami off Mendis, lifted India past the 250-run mark.

With 15 to get off the last over, and only one wicket remaining, Dhoni, who was struggling throughout the innings, hit a 6, 4 and a 6 after missing out on the first ball from Shaminda Eranga to take India home. They lost their two openers to Bhuvneshwar Kumar but a 122-run stand for the third wicket by Lahiru Thirimanne (46) and Kumar Sangakkara (71) put them on course for a massive total. However they lost their last eight for just 29 runs, as Ravindra Jadeja took 4 for 23. Ishant Sharma and Ashwin took 2 wickets each.
