India in Sri Lanka Cricket Series 2009
India vs Sri Lanka Second ODI at Colombo
IND v SL, 2nd ODI, Colombo: India beat Sri Lanka by 15 runs (IND 2:0)
Jan 31, 2009
India fended off a spirited challenge by Sri Lanka to snatch a thrilling 15-run victory in the second one-dayer and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
After posting a competitive 256 for 9, the visitors quelled Sri Lankan late fightback to stop them at 241 with four balls to spare in a pulsating floodlit encounter.
Visiting fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who took three wickets in the first match, returned figures of four for 56 from his nine overs and Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar and Pragyan Ojha chipping in with a wicket apiece.
Thilina Kandamby's brilliant unbeaten 93 went in vain as Indians held on to their nerves in the tense final moments to romp home at the day-nighter.
With today's win, India have notched up their seventh consecutive ODI victory.
Electing to bat, India scored 256 for nine with Yuvraj Singh (66) and Virender Sehwag (42) being the main contributors on a slow track at Premadasa stadium.
IND v SL, 2nd ODI, Colombo: India 256-9 (50.0 overs) beat Sri Lanka 241 (49.2 overs) by 15 runs
IND v SL, 2nd ODI, Colombo: Sehwag to return for second ODI
Jan 31, 2009
India's dashing opener Virender Sehwag is almost certain to come back to the side in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
The 30-year-old opening batsman missed the first ODI in Dambulla due to hip pain, but India won the match comfortably by six wickets.
Sehwag, however, was back on the field Friday and had a good training session.
Dhoni denied that Sehwag's return will result in a selection dilemma and hinted that Rohit Sharma, who made an unbeaten 25 in Dambulla, will have to sit out.
