India vs Sri Lanka First ODI at Kolkatta

IND vs SL 1st ODI : Rained out

Only 18.2 overs were possible before rain forced the opening one-day international between India and Sri Lanka in Calcutta to be abandoned.
With Sanath Jayasuriya hitting 13 boundaries in an unbeaten 63, the tourists reached 102-3. The staff tried for several hours to clear surface water at Eden Gardens but umpires Simon Taufel and Suresh Shastri ruled conditions were not good enough.
The second game of the four-match series will take place in Rajkot on Sunday.

Reported Earlier :Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to field in the first of the four-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Indian skipper Rahul Dravid suggested that the decision to field first was taken considering the due factor that will come into play later on in the day. India will be looking to the returning Virender Sehwag to get some runs under his belt, while Sri Lanka will be hoping that their bowling attack can deliver despite the absence of the experienced Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas.

IND vs SL 1st ODI : Agarkar, Pathan and Yuvraj doubtful for first ODI

India were grappling with injury worries on the eve of their first match against Sri Lanka in a cricket series which will serve as a litmus test for out-of-form Virender Sehwag in his bid to secure a World Cup berth.
As many as three players Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj Singh were rendered doubtful starters because of injury problems forcing the team management to defer naming the playing line-up for the day-night encounter at the Eden Gardens. Agarkar was down with flu while Pathan, desperate to regain his form to earn a place in the World Cup squad, had a sore shoulder and did not bowl during practice. Yuvraj, who has just recovered from a knee injury, had a stiff back. The list of casualties may force the Indian think tank to alter their plans for the game which was expected to be watched by a capacity crowd.
Indian captain Rahul Dravid said the playing eleven would be decided tomorrow to give the injured players a little more time to regain fitness. Besides Sehwag, Pathan and paceman Munaf Patel, considered vital cogs in team composition, will also be under the scanner before the selectors choose the final 15 for the World Cup on February 12. India, who are coming from a 3-1 win over West Indies in the recent home series, would like to maintain the winning momentum and the massive 6-1 victory over the islanders a year ago could serve as a psychological cushion for the team.

India team (from): Rahul Dravid (capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, Sourav Ganguly, Dinesh Kaarthick, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth and Munaf Patel.

Sri Lanka in India ODI Cricket Series 2006-07

India vs Sri Lanka First ODI at Kolkatta

Venue : Eden Gardens

Eden Gardens situated in Kolkata is the oldest cricket ground in India and is also considered one of the finest in the world. The present Eden Gardens Cricket Club came in existence some time in the year 1864. It has been called the Lord's of Asia.
The first ever first-class match to be played here was in 1917-18, while the first Test match was against Douglas Jardine's MCC in January 1934. Since then the ground has hosted 34 Test matches In February 1987, the stadium hosted its first One day international match against Pakistan. A total of 20 One day international have been played at the venue, the last to date being South Africa v India played on 25 November 2005. As a part of modernization of the stadium during the 1987 World Cup, where the final match was held, covered stands were built all around, with a modern Club House and pavilion. The Club House now houses the offices of the Cricket Association of Bengal. In November 1993, a five-nation tournament was played in India to celebrate the CAB Diamond Jubilee, where day-night one-day international matches were played at this ground, thanks to the installation of four gigantic floodlights.
On 13 November 2004 India and Pakistan played a One Day International to celebrate BCCI Platinum Jubilee. The stadium is the largest cricketing facility in the world, rivaled only by the MCG. The pitch at Eden Gardens has traditionally been on the slower side and good for batting, assisting spin bowlers very early. Recently, however, this stadium has come across crowd trouble.
